Entitled Down Memory Lane, the CD is a collaboration with high-lonesome singer, Mark Kuykendall. Hicks started working with Bill Monroe in 1954.

Wayne Henderson and Friends Return to Carter Fold Sat Nov 7

Wayne HendersonHiltons, VA -- Wayne Henderson’s top-notch finger-picking is a source of great pleasure and pride to his friends, family, and neighbors in Grayson County, Virginia. His guitar playing has also been enjoyed at Carnegie Hall, in three national tours of Masters of the Steel-String Guitar, and in seven nations in Asia. In addition to his reputation as a guitarist, Henderson is a luthier of great renown. He is a recipient of a 1995 National Heritage Award presented by the National Endowment for the Arts. He produces about twenty instruments a year, mostly guitars; he is almost as well-known for the mandolins he has made. Doc Watson owned a Henderson mandolin.

Special Consensus 40th Anniversary ConcertFormed in the Chicago area in 1975, Special Consensus is a four-person acoustic bluegrass band with a repertoire that features traditional bluegrass standards, original compositions by band members and professional songwriters, and songs from other musical genres performed in the bluegrass format. The band has released 17 recordings and has appeared on numerous National Public Radio programs and cable television shows, including The Nashville Network and the Grand Ole Opry at the historic Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, Tennessee.

Whitetop Mountain Band is a family-based band from the highest mountains of Virginia. Whitetop is an area rich in old time music tradition, and this band has deep roots in mountain music. The band’s members have worked tirelessly to preserve the region’s style of old time fiddling and banjo picking and are legendary musicians and teachers of the style. Their shows are high energy and unlike any other show you have ever seen. There’s everything from fiddle and banjo instrumentals to powerful solos and harmony vocals on blues, classic country, honky tonk, traditional bluegrass numbers, old timey ballads, originals, four-part mountain gospel songs – and some flat foot dancing. Well-known for their charisma on stage and their ability to engage audiences of all ages, this group has been performing at the Carter Fold since shows first began at the A.P. Carter Grocery in the 1970s.

The fourth generation of the Bluegrass Mountaineers, Chris Wilcox is eager to learn the instruments at the young age of eight years old. In a quest to carry on the traditional bluegrass sound, the Bluegrass Mountaineers combine old time claw hammering, classic country yodeling, and twin fiddles to showcase their unique style. All members of the Bluegrass Mountaineers take turns demonstrating their vocal and instrumental abilities. Their love for the traditional, genuine bluegrass sound is evident every time they take the stage.

Music Legend Ralph Stanley Celebrates 70th Anniversary in Concert

Dr. Ralph StanleyManassas, VA -- In 1945, a young Ralph Stanley joined his brother, the late Carter Stanley to form The Stanley Brothers, a pair that would go on to become one of the most influential music duos of all-time. They got their start calling into a local radio station in Norton, Va, where they would sing songs over the phone. After 7 decades, three Grammy awards and an induction into the Grand Ole Opry, Dr. Ralph Stanley has no intention on slowing down as he hits the 70-year milestone. To commemorate this accomplishment, he is playing a special show in Manassas, Va. on October 9 at the Hylton Performing Arts Center. He will be joined by his Grandson, Dove-award winner Nathan Stanley and the Clinch Mountain Boys for this momentous occasion.

Michael Feagan has played with some of bluegrass music’s finest – Bill Monroe and Larry Sparks to name a few. He’s also worked with David Peterson & 1946 as well as country singer and guitarist Jerry Reed. Michael accompanied Kody Norris on fiddle at the Carter Fold. Michael will be backed by Fiddlegrass – some of bluegrass music’s finest musicians. His newest release – A Fiddler’s Journey – is now available. The CD features dance tunes that even the most seasoned musicians might not know. The release exemplifies the versatility and experience that make Michael’s career so diverse and interesting.
