Bluegrass Music's Biggest Night Award Winners

IBMA Awards LogoBluegrass Music's Biggest Night, the International Bluegrass Music Awards honored the genre's outstanding contributors and artists. The awards are voted upon by the professional membership of the association through a three ballot process. The 2017 awards took place Thursday night in Raleigh, NC. There were multiple categories of awards and, the formal induction for the Hall of Fame inductees. The main awards, special awards, momentum awards and Hall of Fame inductions comprises all of the IBMA award presentations.

With Eight Each, Earls & Balsam Range Lead IBMA Award Nominations

IBMA Awards LogoNashville, TN -- Nominees for the 2017 International Bluegrass Music Awards were announced today at a press conference in Nashville, Tennessee, with Balsam Range and the Earls of Leicester leading the pack with eight nominations each. Balsam Range received six nominations for the band and two for their individual members, while the Earls pulled in five nominations, plus three for individual members. Close behind are the Gibson Brothers, with seven nominations (band and individuals), and Michael Cleveland and Flamekeeper, with five nominations (band and individuals). IBMA Showcase Application Opens Today

IBMA Bluegrass RambleNashville, TN -- The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has announced that applications are now open for bluegrass and bluegrass-related artists to apply to be an Official Showcase Selection performer at the IBMA's annual Bluegrass Ramble during World of Bluegrass week. The 2017 Bluegrass Ramble will take place September 26 - 28, once again in beautiful downtown Raleigh, NC during IBMA's World of Bluegrass. All emerging bands plus established bands with new music or new personnel are encouraged to apply. The application process opens today, Tuesday, January 17th at 10 AM Central.

2016 IBMA Momentum Award Winners Announced

Lil’ SmokiesNashville, TN -- The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has announced the for the 2016 Momentum Awards which were handed out at a luncheon at the World of Bluegrass Business Conference, Wednesday, September 28, at the Raleigh Convention Center in downtown Raleigh, North Carolina. The Momentum Awards focus on artists and industry people who are in the early stages of their bluegrass music careers. Performance awards go to one band, one vocalist and three instrumentalists, while three industry awards go to a Mentor, Industry Achiever and a Festival/Venue/Event.

IBMA Accepting Youth Stage Applications

Youth-centered jams, seminars, workshops, performances, and more will be taking place all week, September 27-October 1, 2016 offering more ways than ever to get involved in bluegrass music! One of the highlights each year is the Youth Stage performances.

IBMA Graduates Leadership Bluegrass Class of 2016

Leadership Bluegrass 2016Nashville, TN -- The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) is pleased to announce the graduating class of Leadership Bluegrass 2016. Leadership Bluegrass, held annually since 2000, is an intensive, highly-focused three-day program in which leaders and emerging leaders of the bluegrass community come together to discuss the victories and challenges facing the bluegrass music industry today, and to strategize for the future. The tightly-contested seats were awarded to 26 participants from 14 states, who were chosen by a selection committee from a pool of 62 applicants.

World of Bluegrass Songwriter Showcase Applications Now Open

Ten selected songwriters (or songwriting teams) are given the rare and valuable opportunity to perform one original bluegrass song to the best bluegrass artists and producers in the industry. Executive Director Paul Schiminger Explains the IBMA Awards Process

SchimingerThe new Executive Director for the International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA), Paul Schiminger, has put together an educational video that explains the entire process for the association's annual awards and the voting process that ultimately decides the winners. Held annually since 1986, today almost two dozen awards are handed out to recognize the top achievements across the industry. The awards feature new professionals through the Momentum Awards through the normal music awards and finally the Hall of Fame inductions. Some awards are voted on by the professional membership and some are determined by select committees without voter input.

Bill Keith & Larry Sparks to be Inducted to IBMA Hall of Fame

Bill Keith & Larry SparksThe International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has announced that Bill Keith and Larry Sparks will be newest members to be inducted into the association's Hall of Fame. The induction will take place during the IBMA's annual Awards Show in Raleigh, North Carolina on October 1st, 2015. Both Keith and Sparks have left a permanent impression in the music we call Bluegrass. Both are also still active in the music and bring a long tradition of their respective styles as they helped shape the sound of today. While each are significantly different in their contributions, there is no denying that without them much of what we listen today would have been shaped differently.
